The first webinar introduced how the model will take land use into account both in the present and in the future. The team explained how the land use data are used to build “place types”—profiles of development patterns such as “community commercial” and “institutional”—and demonstrated how these are allocated on a grid of the region for the purposes of analysis.
The team also outlined the basis of the economic objectives and how the research and forecasts will be used to shape the scenarios. Current industry clusters and forecasts of industry composition were described and the team identified certain risks and opportunities that may affect this growth.
